21 Days Later

It's been 21 days. The water is still 4 feet high in the worst areas, and that water is there to stay until January. It's been 21 days. Only 2,000 out of 130,000 families have received some form of aid. It's been 21 days. The stagnant, rotting sewage water is breeding disease and releasing a horrific stench.

It's been 21 days. And people are still smiling. There is this phenomenon here in the Philippines in which people have what I call the 'smiling disease'. It's contagious and mind-baffling. People swimming out of their houses with the clothes on their back and nothing else still smile. People waiting in 4-6 feet of water in the pouring rain for 6 hours to get some rice and a gallon of water still smile. Maybe we could learn something?

And there we are on the roof (not because of flooding) with the breathtaking scape of Manila's beauty behind us, sinking into the sunset. Haha, don't we all just love the city?

The smiles are contagious and believe they help keep each other going on. They take life moment by moment and are grateful of it even if it's at the lowest level of surviving, even with joy of just getting the next meal. While we are not smiling even when we live each day at the highest level because we think we are entitled to it. So spoiled with extravagance, luxury, and ease.
